This book provides a structured introduction to research approaches and methods.

Gerrish, K and Lacey, A (2006) The research process in nursing (5th ed.). Oxford: Blackwell.
Chapter 3 on research ethics is an interesting read.

Hek, G and Moule, P (2011) Making sense of research: an introduction for health and social care practitioners (4th ed.). London: SAGE.
Chapter 11 on critical appraisal and Appendix 1, a critical appraisal framework, are particularly helpful.

This book will help you to understand how different kinds of knowledge relate and are relevant to the practice of nursing.

Reading this book will help you to develop an understanding of how evidence can emerge from practice to inform theory

A comprehensive look at the patient as the centre of the care process.

Koubel, G and Bungay, H (eds.) (2012) Rights, risks and responsibilities: interprofessional perspectives.
Basingstoke: Palgrave.

Explores and applies the ten perceptions of nursing clinical decision-making skills in detail.

Chapter 8 Getting evidence into practice

An easy-to-read overview of many of the topics raised in this book.

Koubel, G and Bungay, H (eds) (2009) The challenge of person-centred care: an interprofessional perspective. Basingstoke: Palgrave.
One of the few books that considers patient-centred care in the interprofessional context.

National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) (2007) How to change practice:
Understand, identify and overcome barriers to change. London: NICE.
This document is simply laid out and easy to read, and can be accessed through the NICE website (see below) by typing the title and first word of the subtitle into the search box on the top right.
