31 When things go wrong
Mike Michael

1. This is an exercise designed for people who are at least half way through a project. However, if you are at the start of a project, you might find it useful to use your imagination to think of ways you can 'rescue' your project if what you are planning doesn’t work out. Although you can do this exercise alone by writing things down, it is best done in a group with friends or others involved in the same kind of work.

    (a) Identify the things that have 'gone wrong' so far in your research project.
    (b) Do the same for the things that have 'gone right' so far (this is just to cheer you up if the previous part of the exercise has made you feel depressed!)
    (c) Use the examples and advice in the chapter to identify (i) what you have already done to put things right; (ii) what you can do in the future to put things right.
