Introduction

Welcome to Sage Publications' Web-Based Student Study Guide for W. Newton Suter's Introduction to Educational Research: A Critical Thinking Approach.

This easily navigable Guide was developed for the purpose of facilitating your learning of important concepts in the study of educational research. The content of this Website was designed to engage your thinking in ways that enhance your understanding of important facets in the conduct of educational research.

For each chapter, the Guide offers web exercises, quizzes, learning objectives, and electronic flashcards.

To enable your critical thinking about research in education and provide practice analyzing published research reports, 18 full text journal articles are available with questions in matrix format and linked to important ideas in each chapter (“Learning from Journal Articles” on the main menu).

The Guide also presents Published Examples of Research Concepts for additional reading in the form of explanatory tours of published research. These are tied to selected chapters in the book and can be found on those chapters’ menu pages.

Because many students of educational research are asked to critically analyze research or write research proposals in an area of interest, the Guide also contains samples of students' work culminating in formal research critiques and proposals. The Sample Research Critiques can be found on the menu page for Chapter 14 and the Sample Research Proposals can be found on the menu page for Chapter 15.
